summer medallion adventure…center and a giveaway

ready to begin??
fabrics selected…at least for the center??
this week our focus is the center…
marcellemedallion
you have two choices…
templates – that came with the book…
or paper piecing…
Hillary of Young Texan Mama has graciously offered to share paper piecing templates….
contact her if you are interested….
summer medallion adventure
I opted to go the paper piecing route…
my first step was to print a set and tape them together to see the finished block….
keep in mind this is just one quarter….

next I began playing with color and fabrics….
using the photo in the book as a guide…

I then labeled my fabric with the letters of the sections….

I began at one end and worked my way up.
If you are rusty at paper piecing….
remember sewing on the front of the paper and fabric on the back side. Your fabrics are right sides together…
to determine the size of fabric for each section, I measure the widest part and add about an inch. Much easier to cut off the excess than sew more on!!

set your stitch length down to make tearing off the paper easier…
summer medallion adventure
one section complete….
cut carefully 1/4 inch from the outside edge…

so I have half of the center done…the two quarters need to be sewn together…
one last tip – when sewing the right and left sections together, flip the seams so they nest in together. I found the intersections lined up much better!

giveaway for this week….spy some goodies??
Happy Sewing!

I see polka dots! I love polka dots! Guess I need to get started, so I don’t get behind right off the bat. I think I’m going the template route, since I don’t like paper piecing that much.

Is that Alison Glass? And I love me some polka dots! 🙂 I’m super intimidated by this bc I’m not a great scrappy quilter, but I’m in love with this pattern. Trying to get the courage to jump in!

I like what you have done so far. You certainly have more vision for combinations than I have. This will be fun to watch it develop. Good for you! Love, Mom

I spy pretty greys and yellows. Thanks for a fun giveaway. I have never tried paper piecing, for some reason it scares me.
