My parents used to own a boat on Lake Erie. My husband and I had a boat next to my parents boat. My husband and I would take our 2 children to the Lake every weekend from spring through early fall. Those were the best years of my life and my mom and dad’s life. My dad loved having his family all together as my brother and sister were often their. Mom and Dad loved having their grandchildren close by, Dad is healthy for 84, the boats are gone but the memories and stories are retold, and cherished. I promised him a nautical quilt to thank him for all the fun memories he gave me. This fabric would be perfect for His quilt.
Quilting is a like a book, it is a story. With each stitch we quilters are telling a story, and mine is about my dad that I love very much
Now, he is a bit of a comedian and he knows I am planning on making his blanket, but I am slow because I have chronic back pain. Instead of sadness we make jokes, and laugh
He said,” I thought I would get my blanket for Christmas, but you gave me a heating pad instead. He laughed and laughed, it doesnt cover much of my body.” He went on and said, ” I sure was thankful we had a mild winter this year. Mon~If it isn’t made this year do you think you could get me another heating pad, maybe I can keep another part of my body warm next year. I said, I will just pray for another mild winter., (I said) ..” dad, you do know it takes a long time to make quilts?” he said, “ahhh I bet it is gonnal be a REAL nice one, I’ve been waiting 5 years. (It has been only 1, apparently time goes by differently when your in your 80’s. He is quite ornery. but i am going to have other family help out since I can’t move very well, he will.love this fabric, I will be sure it makes its way on Dads “Foolish Pleasure” Quilt one way or the other
The blue fabric is great! It’s hard to find darker blues. I spy some Christmas trees!
