so happy together by Deena Rutter…I have been holding on to this charm pack for almost a year…oh my!
I decided on a simple, but fun tablerunner….
love, love this solid ombre fabric from Riley Blake!! I am using it sparingly….but thought a star would be perfect in this runner….don’t you think??
since this is still a work in progress, I am linking up with Lee….

This is going to be adorable, Brooke! I love the solid ombre fabric with the charm prints. Question about working with charm packs — Do you prewash yours? I had never bought precuts other than fat quarter packs until recently, when I fell in love with a couple of Moda prints that my LQS had only in a layer cake and not available as yardage. I prewashed the layer cake squares in a lingerie bag, handwash cycle in my front load washer and was annoyed to discover afterwards that: 1. Not only did the 10″ precut squares shrink, but they shrank more in one direction than the other and 2. The layer cut squares were not cut on grain! Once I straightened the grain and squared them up, an awful lot of fabric had been lost to waste. There are so many patterns out there in books and magazines that are marketed as “precut friendly,” but I don’t understand how other quilters are able to use precuts at all if they have to straighten and recut them all anyway. I know there are a lot of quilters who choose not to prewash their fabrics, but even so, doesn’t it mess up a project to use squares or strips that are cut off grain? I now have Precutaphobia. 🙂
i love the star!! so adorable!!! can’t wait to see the finished quilt!
Oooh! Ombre star! What a great Idea, I just bought a half yard of that fabric.
Pretty fabrics – I think they’ll make a lovely summery tablerunner 🙂
I’m with Rebecca – I’ve seen odd shrinkage happenings too, and haven’t yet actually USED any of my charm squares or jellyrolls because I prewash everything before I use it (lesson learned when a fitted tablecloth shrunk to unusable proportions during it’s first wash) but it’s not practical to wash the precuts! I don’t know what the answer is. I was gifted with some scraps of a nice line of fabrics recently and they’re not prewashed, so I thought I would piece them together into usable sizes (for zipper bags, likely) and then give them a swish in hot water. It’s an interesting topic – people tend to definitely be FOR or AGAINST prewashing 😀
Oh my, the springy colors are absolutely perfect for this time of year, and the ombre star is great. Do you free hand those starts when you piece them?
I haven’t seen that ombre fabric, it looks great in that star. The star is a lovely pattern, I’m going to make a quilt with it. I wouldn’t bother prewashing pre-cuts but have noticed that they are never 5″ and always end up trimming them down or having wonky blocks
Stars!!! Great choice!!! The colors are what I/we have been waiting for….Spring!!!! This is going to be so wonderful!!!!
The star is such a great idea!!!
