a t-shirt quilt + giveaway

hello Monday!
today…I am beginning a bit of a series…
t-shirt quilt
on how to take an assortment of t-shirts and uniforms and make them into a quilt…
t-shirt quilt
so I like to use a quilt as a base for size guidelines…
notice…I only have a few t-shirts, so I have them spread out…
did you see the ties??
what would you do with them??
t-shirt quilt
then I separated the logos on smaller items like shirts and aprons
I also have uniforms with no writing on them that I plan to make blocks or coping strips with…
t-shirt
now…to use t-shirts in a quilt…
I use fusible interfacing to add durability to the design area
t-shirt
then trim the shirt so there is about an inch around the edge of the design
and sew on some strips…
I used 3.5 inch strips of Kona black…

so from time to time…you will see blog posts on my quilt progress…along with any helpful tips…

giveaway
and the giveaway for the week…

Happy Sewing!

Origami Oasis and Festive Forest — gorgeous! I haven’t sewn with ties but the shape makes me think of using them for dresdens or string piecing. Have a wonderful holiday season Brooke!

I would use the ties as stashing between t-shirt pieces. Make the blocks go wonky to add more interest.

I need to make a t-shirt quilt for my son. He told me the night before he left for his LDS mission to Japan, that it would be nice if I made a t-shirt quilt out of his basketball t-shirts! what? I had no idea he wanted one. He has been gone a year, soooo I need to get crackin’!

I’ve always wondered how one went about making a t-shirt quilt, so I’ll enjoy reading your posts. I like that cute little pink Christmas tree! Merry Christmas back to you and your family! We have a college friend of mine here from MPLS for the holidays — I picked her up yesterday. All the wrapping and Christmas making is done, and now I can sit and chat and do some hand quilting — ahhh.

I’ve not tried a t-shirt quilt. I hear they are a bit tricky to sew. I spy a pink Christmas tree.
