Today is Monday, right???!!! Let’s pretend….so on Friday, I decided rather last minute to put together a gift…
I opened up a new variegated thread….love it….
did some straight line quilting….
use a strip of Botanics for the binding….
I was headed out of town for a surprise visit….here is the snow I left in Minneapolis….
Sewed my binding on the plane…perfect handwork size for traveling….
Raining in Seattle when we landed….pretty typical!

I surprised my Mom for her 70th birthday – way too fun!!!
Here is the finished snack mat….a gift for my Dad.
Here is just one of the many water photos I took….love it!!!
And as promised the giveaway for the week….well, at least until Friday when I draw the winner. Thanks so much for understanding internet issues….Happy Sewing!
I love Variegated threads. Every time I get a quilt quilted, I end up picking variegated!
How awesome for your Mom to have a surprise visit! So sweet!
I really need to get my hands on a spool of variegated thread. I’ve been wanting to try some for awhile.
Love your post! Such a nice way to surprise your mom! Happy Birthday to her!
Welcome to my corner of the world Brooke! We live just south of Olympia and happy birthday to your mom!

yay! Lol typical Seattle, it always rain here! Well almost always anyway… That’s cool that you are finishing your binding on the airplane, that is a great way to spend the time! I didn’t know that we are allowed to bring needles on the airplane. Did you bring a small scissors? Was it allowed? I’m curious!
What a great surprise for your Mom! I love the fabrics you chose for your snack mat and the variegated thread is great. I just finished a batik quilt and used a variegated thread and it turned out great.
looks like a great weekend.
It looks like you had a great trip. I love pictures taken from an airplane. 🙂
Happy birthday to your Mom:D
I almost always use varigated thread to quilt. it seems to blend in to the design well
I just ordered some variegated thread. Can’t wait to try it.
I love the variegated thread too although I have only seen it used and not used it myself. Happy birthday to your Mom. It was my 70th too, last week so we are nearly twins. My family came for the weekend too, only 300 miles but still a long way to travel in this horrible winter we are having in the UK. Seattle always sounds so nice, even though they have a lot of rain. Perhaps it’s all down to Tom Hanks, Meg Ryan and Frasier.
Enjoy your parents. I miss mine so much. They have been gone 5 years and 28 years. Every day is precious.

So much fun to surprise your Mom!!
I enjoy quilting with variegated thread too.
What a sweet surprise for your mom! You both look so happy in the photo.
I am sure you made your mum’s day turning up like that. You were probably hr best birthday present. Thank you for a sweet giveaway.
Now I want to visit my Mom, she moved to Mexico and I know she’d love me to bring in some fabric for her. I’m often a failure at quilting with variegated thread, so I always like to see people have successful looking projects with it!
I did variegated thread once and had problems with my machine so the top thread showed on the back and vice versa. The contrasting colors made it worse. I got my machine fixed, but I am scared of the variegated thread now.
What a fun surprise! Happy Birthday to your mom!
I, too, love the variegated thread. What a nice project, gift and visit. Have a great week!
Isn’t it fun to surprise someone? I am not too good at it, but I love it when it happens.

It looks like your mom was very happy to have you visit. I would love to go visit the Seattle area again. Lived there for about 6 years while my husband did grad school.
Variegated thread can add a great touch to quilted projects.
