firecrackers blog hop

hello and welcome to
Fat Quarter Shop’s Firecrackers blog hop!!
firecrackers quilt
I am super excited to FINALLY share this quilt project with you!
fat quarter shop
to get started…
you will need the pattern, two jelly rolls, a 30 degree triangle ruler and some background…
I decided to mix two lines..Hello Darling and Daysail by Bonnie and Camille

@bonniecottonway @thimbleblossoms strips all pieced for @fatquartershop #firecrackerquilt now to begin cutting. Happy Friday!

@bonniecottonway @thimbleblossoms strips all pieced for @fatquartershop #firecrackerquilt now to begin cutting. Happy Friday!

the first step is to sew strips together in groups of five
one tip I did…I cut my strips in half so I wasn’t sewing with such a long strip…
it also allowed me to mix up my fabrics – I alternated fabrics from each of the lines to mix up the colors and prints
firecracker quilt
then, using the 30 degree triangle ruler, I cut my triangles…
firecrackers quilt
the next step was to sew background triangles cut from 8 inch WOF strips
and sew one on either side of the pieced triangle…
Fat Quarter Shop has put together an outstanding tutorial full of great tips…
firecrackers quilt
the next step is to trim your blocks to 6.5 inches square…again, there are some great tips in the tutorial..I referred to it often!

Two by two #firecrackersquilt project coming along @fatquartershop @bonniecottonway @thimbleblossoms just keep seeing!

Two by two #firecrackersquilt project coming along @fatquartershop @bonniecottonway @thimbleblossoms just keep seeing!

sewing the blocks into pairs…
firecrackers quilt
and then sew the pairs together to get this block…
firecrackers quilt
and then lay the blocks out in a pleasing arrangement…
you will notice my top is 5 x 5 rather than 5 x 6 like the pattern…
firecrackers quilt
I sewed the blocks into rows and then the rows together…
firecrackers quilt
just really love how this finished!!!
*one other tip – do a stay stitch around the outer edge…there are a lot of bias edges and this will help to keep your quilt top square before it is quilted*
firecrackers quilt
so the Fat Quarter Shop has put together a quilt kit and a backing kit for this project….

take a look at these other blogs to see their Firecrackers Quilt…

On the Windy Side by Adrianne

Must Love Quilts by Corinne
Mommy Sew by Jenn

Fly Away Quilts by Lauren

now for some fun…
how would you like to win a jelly roll or a 30 degree ruler??
I have the pleasure of giving away one of each…
so leave me a comment on what jelly roll you would select…or your thoughts about this project…or just to say “hello”!

since this is a finish…I am linking up with Confessions of a Fabric Addict and Crazy Mom Quilts

Happy Sewing!

    Love this pattern Brooke!
I’d choose an Alison Glass jelly roll – no surprises here!!

  2. Alison November 13, 2015 at 7:53 am #

This is gorgeous and I loved that you mixed these two lines together! 😀

  3. Annmarie November 13, 2015 at 8:22 am #

Lovely quilt – the pattern is ssew cool. I love batiks, so any of the Watercolor jelly rolls from Hoffman Fabrics over at the FQS would be a much appreciated win!

  4. Bonnie B November 13, 2015 at 8:51 am #

I love the quilt. I am more of a scrap quilter than one who uses a specific line of fabric. Maybe if I win a jelly roll that might change. The ruler looks like a wonderful tool. Thanks for the chance to win.

  5. Jen B November 13, 2015 at 9:21 am #

Hello, I’d use the jelly roll:

  6. Sarah J. November 13, 2015 at 9:57 am #

Oh what a lovely quilt! I love how you combined both of those lines. I am always a bit mystified by jelly rolls and how to use them- thanks for sharing a great idea!

  7. amy November 13, 2015 at 9:57 am #

I’d use Farmhouse jelly rolls! This pattern is so awesome-and your version is really lovely!

  8. mumbird3 November 13, 2015 at 10:02 am #

What a gorgeously beautiful quilt! It looks like I need that ruler…I have a hard time knowing what to do with jelly rolls. This looks like a project I would love to try!

  11. Sandy M November 13, 2015 at 11:39 am #

I love the Hello Darling fabric you used but I think I would need to make mine in the Fig Tree Farm house. It’s been a while since I worked with Fig Tree and the Farmhouse line is adorable!

  12. Becca November 13, 2015 at 11:43 am #

What a pretty quilt! Those lines look really good together. That looks like a fabulous ruler! I think I might pick Canyon by Kate Spain. Or maybe Atrium by Joel Dewberry. 🙂

  13. Emilee November 13, 2015 at 11:45 am #

I love the cotton & steel basics jelly roll!

  14. Delaine November 13, 2015 at 12:07 pm #

    Lella Boutique.

  16. Liz November 13, 2015 at 12:24 pm #

I like this project, and I’d try it with some solids and a scrappy low volume background.

  17. Cecilia November 13, 2015 at 12:41 pm #

I love the fabrics you chose! Bonnie & Camille are my favorite designers. I would love to use one of their lines, such as Hello Darling. Thanks for the giveaway and for sharing.

    Lecien Fabrics.

Very Nice. Thank you for sharing. I really would love to make something from Sweetwater’s new line, and can imagine this in all the reds and creams.

  25. Nicole Sender November 13, 2015 at 4:33 pm #

Your Firecrackers Quilt is awesome! I really like the Hello Darling jelly roll!

  26. Summer November 13, 2015 at 4:33 pm #

Great tip about cutting the strip in half before sewing. The middle tends to be a bit wonky anyway.

  27. LINDA November 13, 2015 at 4:39 pm #

HI,isn’t this quilt striking! Love it! I’d love to win a Jelly Roll, like a “Gooseberry” one!
Thanks to you+FQS for sharing a great giveaway!

  28. Kirsten November 13, 2015 at 5:37 pm #

I would like to use Canyon by Kate Spain – thanks for the chance to win!

  29. Lisa Marie November 13, 2015 at 5:39 pm #

Your quilt top is gorgeous! I would likely choose the For You Jelly Roll by Zen Chic for Moda Fabrics, but then I would mix in some other fabrics like you did. When it comes to the number of fabrics in my quilts, I think more is more!

  30. Nicole Sender November 13, 2015 at 5:58 pm #

Your quilt is outstanding! I think I might use Ardently Austen 2.5″ Rolie Polie Amanda Herring for Riley Blake Designs & Clementine Design Roll Heather Bailey for Free Spirit Fabrics.

    • Nicole Sender November 13, 2015 at 6:00 pm #

Sorry!! I guess I messed up and posted 2 times!!!!!

  31. Morgan November 13, 2015 at 6:20 pm #

I like this for a simple when-you-need-a-quilt pattern. I need to do a snuggle quilt for my partner so he stops dragging his quilt off the bed, and this pattern is vying with Fire Drill for my attention…. (coincidence with the fiery names, I think!) Oh, and I really like the top photo where it looks on point, that’s awesome! Making this quilt with a Shimmer strip set would be awesome but I think I’d go with Modern Background Ink… That combined with a black background would be suitably masculine!

  32. Judy November 13, 2015 at 6:46 pm #

I would make it with the Evergreen jelly roll from Basic Grey, love your mix of fabric on this quilt!

  33. Emily C November 13, 2015 at 7:15 pm #

I would love a jelly roll of Cold Spell.

  34. Vicki H November 13, 2015 at 7:27 pm #

I love the quilt. I’m not sure what colors I would use.

  35. Sandy K November 13, 2015 at 7:29 pm #

I would like to make one with Christmas fabrics.

  36. Kristen Sanderson November 13, 2015 at 7:34 pm #

I love this quilt! Love that you mixed the two fabric lines together.

  37. duchick November 13, 2015 at 8:10 pm #

This is such a fun design! It makes me think of a tree skirt I made last year with triangles similar to these, only bigger. I have some leftover that I could make into blocks. You’ve got my creative wheels spinning! thanks!

  38. Darlene H November 13, 2015 at 8:24 pm #

I like your fabric choice. I would use bali pops.

  39. nicole gendy November 13, 2015 at 10:51 pm #

  41. Chris November 13, 2015 at 11:35 pm #

This quilt is wonderful. I’d love to make one of these with a black background and lots of brights. Then a white tone on tone with 30’s.

  42. Sarah November 14, 2015 at 1:45 am #

I think I would have to deliberate for awhile to pick a jelly roll! I love your quilt, and I love that it’s cut after the strips are sewn together. The two lines of fabric you chose go so well together!

  43. Loriann Fish November 14, 2015 at 2:47 am #

I think this would be a good pattern to go scrappy with. I would use a constant background.

  44. Diane K November 14, 2015 at 6:17 am #

I love your quilt and great photos showing each step. Add it to the list!

  45. Kristina November 14, 2015 at 8:35 am #
