christmas in july blog hop and giveaway

Christmas-in-July[1]
hello and welcome!
today I am excited to share my Folk Art Holiday project with you and…
giveaway some fabric!!
folk art christmas
love, love this new line from Gina Martin Design!
folk art holiday
I am sharing how to make a fun, two-sided pillow cover…
folk art holiday
shall we get started??
for this project, you will need fat quarters or yardage of this line
embroidery floss and linen
wonder under or steam a seam
16 inch or larger zipper
and batting
folk art holiday
I cut a variety of sized strips for the back
and sewed them into a unit
folk art holiday
I placed the unit on batting and did some wavy quilting and then trimmed to 14.5 inches square
folk art holiday
I embroidered “merry” on some linen (sorry, I thought I had a photo…)
*tip* cut an extra large piece of linen…easier to work with and you can always trim it down!
I decided to make this pillow 14 inches, so my linen piece is cut 14.5 inches square
I cut a simple tree and using wonder-under or steam a seam, I placed my tree
folk art holiday
and stitched around the edge…folk art holiday
I added a couple of stars using the same applique method…
and stitched around them
folk art holiday
placing the linen piece on batting, I did some simple echo quilting…
folk art holiday
next step is to add a zipper to the bottom of each side…
folk art holiday
here you can see the zipper at the bottom of both sides…
then you can sew up the sides and across the top
folk art holiday
turn right side out and…
folk art holday
insert your pillow form
folk art holiday
now you are ready for the holiday season with a gift or new home décor for yourself!
folk art holiday
I hope that you enjoyed this project!

I really love this Christmas line. I was doing so many last minute projects last year, I decided to start my Christmas sewing/knitting in January this year! I’d love to do a tree skirt for myself though.

I love this! So far I’ve three things on my to do list for christmas 2014, 2 advent calandars for the kids, and a tabler unner for my sister in law. The speed I work at, it’s going to be a challenge to finish, A christmas cushion like this for my mother in law would go down well though 😀

  6. Linda Pawlak July 29, 2014 at 9:34 am #

  7. Rina July 29, 2014 at 9:40 am #

Last week I started working on a Christmas quilt for myself and today I’ll put the borders on. I love your pillow and think I need to put my quilt on hold to make one to take to my niece when I see her next week.

I love these cute snowflakes and colors. Your zipper cover looks easy.
Christmastime is so fun and special, especially with little kids. Giving gifts is fun because I love the looks on faces as they open gifts.

Very cute project! I love Christmas fabric. I’ve made a few Christmas projects and I have a couple of kits for projects that I REALLY need to get out and work on! I have a Christmas quilt that I finished a couple of years ago that I couldn’t bear to put away after Christmas this year. So, it is folded on the back of my sewing chair. Maybe I’ll put it away this year, but I enjoy seeing it every day now.

Love the fabric, can’t wait to make a Christmas project with it.

  65. Jen B July 30, 2014 at 10:41 am #

I like Christmas, but I’ve never understood Christmas quilts. It seems strange to me to make a special quilt for, at most 2 weeks a year. I really like this fabric line though, because it seems Christmas-y, but the prints aren’t, so I could use the quilt all winter.

  66. Kristi July 30, 2014 at 10:57 am #

I love the fact that I have a little granddaughter to help me out these past couple of years. She helps me with decorating and Christmas cookie baking – yum

    Cute little pillow!

  67. Mary Jordan July 30, 2014 at 11:22 am #

I have two Christmas projects in the works and hope to get at least one done before the holiday. The pillows gave me some ideas to compliment my current projects. Thanks.

  68. Sandie @ crazy'boutquilts July 30, 2014 at 12:07 pm #

Oh wow Brooke, your festive holiday pillow is absolutely fabulous!!! I love the embroidery too, superb work!!! Very inspiring, thanks so much! I can’t wait to start my Christmas decorating every year and this year I might actually get my guest bedroom holiday ready with some homemade throw pillows and a valence, if I can get myself in gear that is, hehe. 🙂

    love christmas fabric, thanks

  72. Mara July 30, 2014 at 2:02 pm #

Great Christmas fabrics, I love getting presents at Christmas, but also in seeing my kids eyes light up when they open theirs that’s my favorite part about Christmas.

  73. Sandy D July 30, 2014 at 5:10 pm #

I don’t like to think of Christmas coming but it sure is hard not to get excited when you see all the GREAT Christmas fabric out there.

  74. Jessica Burns July 30, 2014 at 6:09 pm #

Christmas always catches me off guard. I promise myself that I’ll be better next year – and then I’m not. I am very glad I’m writing this because I suddenly realized that what I thought was a piece of old fruit in a napkin (and thus threw away) was really my crochet thread! It’s saved. 🙂

  75. Tisha July 30, 2014 at 6:48 pm #

With our youngest a teenager, and the older two adults, the best part of Christmas has become hanging out with our kids — they are really neat people!!

  76. Margo July 30, 2014 at 7:44 pm #

I love the fact that designers are blinging up Christmas fabrics! It is no longer hum drum green an red, red and green! My grandson loves sewing with his Nana, so I think a Christmas project again would be a great thing! He loves making “presents’ for his mom!

  77. Sarah July 30, 2014 at 7:50 pm #

I love doing the advent candles each week during the Christmas season.

  78. Kathy Davis July 30, 2014 at 8:18 pm #

When my children were little we always had both grandmas (widows) spend the night with us so they would be here on Christmas morning to enjoy the kids opening their gifts. Then we would have a big Christmas brunch. They are both gone now. We still miss them even though the kids are grown now. Cute Folk Art fabric too. Thanks, Kathy

  79. Pam S July 30, 2014 at 8:51 pm #

I love family gatherings at Christmas. One of our favorite traditions is a white elephant exchange. I look around all year for the gifts that will make people groan! Thanks for the fun, and for sharing your beautiful pillow!
